Professor Wishart
Prof. Gordon. C. Wishart

Professor Gordon Wishart studied at Edinburgh University Medical School and trained in general, breast & endocrine surgery in the West of Scotland deanery. He completed a Cancer Research Campaign Research Fellowship at the CRC Beatson Laboratories in Glasgow in 1989 leading to award of a MD entitled “Aspects of multidrug resistance in breast cancer” in 1992. Following his initial appointment as a consultant breast & endocrine surgeon in Sussex in 1995, he moved to Cambridge in 1998 to develop the breast unit at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, now known as the Cambridge Breast Unit. As clinical director of the Cambridge Breast Unit (CBU) from 2005-2010 he played a significant role in developing the CBU as a breast centre with a national and international reputation for research and clinical excellence. He was appointed as visiting Professor of Cancer Surgery at Anglia Ruskin University in 2008 and has an international reputation in the field of clinical breast cancer research. He recently led a team that developed and validated the new PREDICT breast cancer survival and treatment benefit model.
 
Professor Sam Janes

Professor Janes is Professor of Respiratory Medicine at University College London and Director of the lung cancer programme for London Cancer, and he has strong research interest in improving diagnostic techniques for lung cancer. Professor Janes qualified in 1992. He leads a group interested in the pathogenesis of lung disease including cancer formation and its treatment with new biological and cellular therapies within UCL Respiratory Research Department. He has a particular interest in using stem cells as a cellular vector for gene therapy in cancers. In 2012, he formed the Lungs for Living Research Centre supported by the UCLH Charitable Foundation focusing on researching early lung cancer and the role of stem cells in its formation and treatments. His important work has been recognised by a number of international awards for his research team and the personal award of European Thoracic Oncology Investigator of the Year in 2010. Having published around 100 papers surrounding lung cancer, Professor Janes sits on the British Thoracic Society and British Lung Foundation scientific committees.
